Senegal is located at the westernmost advance of the African continent in the Atlantic Ocean, at the confluence of Europe, Africa and the Americas, and at a crossroads of major sea and air routes.

More than 90% of the population is Muslim, 05% Christian and the rest are animists.  

Language

French is the official language. Wolof is the most spoken national language. The other ethnic groups each have their own dialect. This is the case for Serere; Pular, Jola and Mandingo, Soninke and other minority groups. Besides French, English is also very present in tourist sites, and it is not uncommon to stumble upon someone who speaks Spanish.  

Climate

Entry formalities in Senegal

Passport in progress, valid at least 6 months after the date of travel for EU nationals. For citizens of ECOWAS member countries: passport or valid identity document other nationalities: contact the diplomatic representations of Senegal in the country of origin. Anti-malaria treatment is strongly recommended. However, vaccines against yellow fever, hepatitis A and B are recommended.  

Electricity

The SENELEC provides 220 volts. Most hotels and restaurants have generators to cope with power cuts  

Holidays

New Year's Day, National Day (April 4) Labour Day (1mai), Easter, Ascension, Pentecost, Assumption, Day of the Korité; Tabaski Day, Noel. The national holiday, the Tamxarit, the day of the great Magal of Touba and the day of the first may, the aftermath of Tabaski and the Korité, if these days are not a Saturday or Sunday, are nonworking and paid.  

Currency

The CFA Franc (XOF) is the local currency. €1 = 655,957 CFA francs Euros are accepted in shops and currency distributors are available in all major cities of the country.
